Thinking abt it, how awesome would a scene between Maria Hill and Black Widow have been, scripted by Joss Whedon! Fingers crossed there's something approaching that in the deleted scenes on the DVD (the original 'final' cut was like 4 hours long apparently, and I'm very willing to fantasise about all the gold that had to be cut for length...)

I've read that article, and indeed, it's quite depressing. In the interests of balance, it should be said that a lot of comics get it right. Darwyn Cooke's Catwoman for example is a great take on the character: http://www.amazon.com/Catwoman-Book-The-Dark-Street/dp/1563899086I.V.P.https://www.blogger.com/profile/17167362896416316361noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5067790849166063967.post-32956201582256042632012-08-16T15:43:35.175+01:002012-08-16T15:43:35.175+01:00Good post, Thor was too good for the Avengers. In ...Good post, Thor was too good for the Avengers. In terms of the relative objectification of Catwoman and Black Widow I think I agree. I liked the Nolans' (still can't help but think of sisters there) portrayal of Catwoman right up until the end, where her decision to join him just made no sense! I'm fine with showing Batman getting on with his life with a woman, but with Kyle? No, the way I saw it, the only reason she helped out was so that she could put everything she'd done behind her and have a completely clean slate, and clean conscience - hence coming back when she could have escaped. Showing her with him at the end, giving up the clean slate she'd worked so hard for, because Batman is just obviously so desirable (not) just really annoyed me. She was his prize. But then I shouldn't complain because the film was still better than the actual New 52 comic books in terms of showing her face and not her arse http://www.comicsalliance.com/2011/09/22/starfire-catwoman-sex-superheroine/ . Oooh one more thing, I think Batman actually passed the Bechdel Test which surprised me, whereas Avengers categorically didn't despite having a number of opportunities to. Right- nerd out.
